Brampton, Canada – October 25, 2024 – The United Nations International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC) marked a significant milestone at the recently concluded Global Peace Leadership Summit 2024 in a grand ceremony held at the City of Brampton Conservatory Hall. The high point of the event highlighted the following ;
– the inauguration of the UNIPGC Country Director for Canada ;Amb. Emuobo Unono-Okagbare
– the appointment / Induction of two Humanitarian Ambassadors ; Dr Nkechi Ahanor- Wilson ( a Canadian-Nigerian Entrepreneur Philanthropist) as the UNIPGC Canadian Special Envoy to Niger Delta on entrepreneurship/sustainable development and Nollywood Actor/Film producer Titi Kuti as UNIPGC Humanitarian Ambassador On Youth Engagement and Special Duties Envoy
– Conferment of the “Distinguished Leadership and Commander of Peace award” to mayor of Brampton Patrick W. Brown.
This memorable event brought together an array of global dignitaries, community leaders, and peace advocates, all gathered to support and celebrate the newly appointed director and other key leaders joining UNIPGC’s mission positions.
The appointments and award were confered by The global President of UNIPGC and Permanent representative to the United Nations Supreme Council, His Excellency, Amb Dr Jonathan Ojadah. In attedance were distinguished guests and diplomats from arround the globe. Some notable dignitaries include ; The Mayor of Brampton, His worship; Patrick W. Brown, Ontario Regional Councilor – Paul Vincente, Councillor Monica Singh Soares – Councillor; Township of Southgate leading Several other Members of the City of Brampton Parliament, Hon. Kevin Oguru – member of Parliament representing Berlin Germany, Mr Carlos Sousa – Secretary General UNIPGC canada , Amb Akin Oduntan and Mr Morris Emadu – Community Engagement Specialist,
The dignitaries underscored the importance of international collaboration, shared values, and dedicated leadership in fostering a more peaceful and inclusive global community.
Emuobo Unono-Okagbare expressed his deep gratitude for the appointment, stating, “As Country Director, my focus is on building impactful partnerships and creating transformative initiatives to support the missions of UNIPGC here in Canada and abroad. This role is both a responsibility and an opportunity to serve communities, empower women and youth, and foster peace and development.”
The newly appointed special envoys echoed similar sentiments. Titi Kuti highlighted his commitment to promoting youth engagement, aiming to inspire the next generation through initiatives that encourage civic involvement, creative development in the arts and educational opportunities. Amb,Dr Nkechi Ahanor-Wilson emphasized her dedication to sustainable development in the Niger Delta, underscoring the importance of entrepreneurship as a catalyst for economic growth and environmental preservation in the region.
The event concluded with a call to action, inviting local and international partners to join UNIPGC in championing initiatives that build resilience, drive economic empowerment, and promote peace across borders.
Sequel to the event, the Mayor of Brampton hosted the UNIPGC inductees and Global president to a lunch meeting to personally congratulate them and engage in key discussions to foster collaboration and inclusion of City in key project planned for the fiscal year.
